Jacobie Backstrom

  • Jacobie Backstrom is an Academic Advisor for the College of Liberal Arts & Behavioral Science at Texas Southern University (TSU). With a diverse background in education and a strong commitment to student success, I have made significant contributions to higher education over the years. My professional journey began within the Lone Star College System, where I served in various roles, including outreach/recruitment, advising and retention, admissions, and human resources. Through these experiences, I was able to gain a deep understanding of the needs of students, faculty, and staff, allowing me to better serve our academic community. One of the defining aspects of my career has been my dedication to working with special under-served populations, including first-generation students, low-income individuals, and those with a documented disability. I take pride in curating and building unique identity-based experiences and initiatives that contribute to student success and persistence. My educational journey has been equally diverse, reflecting my commitment to continuous learning and growth. I earned an Associate of Arts in General Studies from Lone Star College, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from the University of Houston–Downtown. I furthered my education by obtaining a Master of Education Administration, with a focus on Higher Education and Human Resources, from Texas Southern University. Currently, I am a Doctoral student at Prairie View A&M University, where I am pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Leadership. My pursuit of a doctorate is a testament to my dedication to making a lasting impact on the field of education and to furthering my ability to serve the academic community. I am passionate about helping students achieve their goals and facilitating their success throughout their academic journeys. My goal is to continue making a positive impact on the lives of students, faculty, and staff while contributing to the growth and advancement of higher education.
